Under-Sink RO Installation
Four-stage RO plumbed to a dedicated faucet, typically installed in a morning across Union Township.

Reverse osmosis is the most thorough drinking water treatment available to a homeowner. When you want to be certain about what is in the glass — for a baby’s formula, for a family member on a restricted diet, or just for peace of mind — RO at the kitchen sink is what we install.
Reverse osmosis for Union, NJ and Union Township
Reverse osmosis is the most thorough drinking water treatment available to a homeowner, and it is the system we recommend when a test comes back with dissolved contaminants that filtration alone cannot touch. On this page we cover the full range: tank-based under-sink systems, tankless on-demand units that waste far less water, countertop plug-in units for renters who cannot modify plumbing, and RO paired with remineralisation for people who dislike the flat taste. A complete system is really four stages — sediment and carbon prefilters protecting the membrane, the membrane itself, and a carbon polishing filter on the way out — and the prefilters are what determine whether your membrane lasts two years or ten months. We install, we service, and we answer the phone 24 hours a day. The on-site water test is free.
Specifically, we install and service tank-based under-sink RO, tankless RO systems, countertop units, remineralising and pH-balancing stages, dedicated RO faucets, and scheduled prefilter and membrane changes. We work in Union Township only. To set scope honestly: RO is a point-of-use system for drinking and cooking water, not a whole-house solution — running an entire home through RO is slow, wasteful and something we will talk you out of. If you want every tap treated, you want carbon or a softener instead. Call (973) 380-3906 and we will tell you which.
Each option below is quoted in writing after a free on-site test, and installed by technicians who service what they sell. Pick the closest match or call and describe your water.

See 24/7 Emergency RO ServiceAn RO system has half a dozen push-fit connections, a drain saddle and a pressurised tank sitting inside your cabinet, and when one lets go it can soak a kitchen floor before anyone notices. That is a call to make immediately — we answer live 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, holidays included, and we will talk you through shutting the feed valve while we are on the way. A slow drop in flow at the RO faucet usually just means the prefilters are due, and we will schedule that normally.
RO pushes water against a semipermeable membrane with pores so fine that most dissolved substances simply cannot pass through. What gets rejected is flushed to the drain; what passes through is remarkably pure water. It is the same technology used to make bottled water and to desalinate seawater, scaled down to fit under your sink.
A complete system is really a chain. Sediment and carbon prefilters go first and exist to protect the membrane — particles would clog it and chlorine would chemically destroy it. Then the membrane does the real work. Finally a carbon polishing filter cleans up the taste on the way to your faucet. Skip or neglect any stage and the expensive part fails early.
Being clear about the limits matters more than the marketing. Here is an honest split, so you know whether this is the system your house needs or whether you need something alongside it.
Filters slowly and stores the result in a small pressurized tank under your sink, so a full glass is always ready. Needs room for the tank alongside the filter stack.
An electric pump filters on demand instead of storing water, so there is no tank taking up cabinet space and considerably less water sent to the drain. Requires an outlet under the sink.
Plug-and-play. Nothing gets cut, drilled or plumbed, and it comes with you when you move.
An under-sink RO install needs four things: a feed water adapter on your cold line, a drain saddle clamped to the sink drain pipe, a dedicated faucet on the sink deck, and physical space for the tank. Tankless units add an electrical outlet. A capable DIYer can usually get through it in two to three hours; we do it in about one, and we leave the cabinet dry.
New Jersey plumbing code generally requires an air gap on an RO drain connection. It is a small detail that gets skipped constantly on self-installs and DIY jobs, and it is the kind of thing that shows up on a home inspection later. We install it correctly.
Worth knowing before you buy
If you are on a private well, do not put in RO alone. Untreated well water clogs prefilters within weeks and will ruin a membrane. Wells need sediment, iron and hardness handled upstream first — we size that whole chain, not just the RO.
Every filtration system is a maintenance commitment, and the honest number matters more than the purchase price. Here is what this one asks of you. We track your intervals and remind you.
| Task | Interval |
|---|---|
| Sediment and carbon prefilters | Every 6–12 months |
| RO membrane | Every 2–3 years |
| Carbon polishing filter | Annually, typically |
| Tank pressure check | At each prefilter change |

Reverse osmosis is unusually sensitive to incoming water pressure, and that is a real constraint in parts of Union Township where postwar homes sit at the end of long service runs or on upper floors. Below roughly 40 psi a tank-based system fills slowly and wastes more water, which is the single most common complaint we get called out to fix on units someone else installed. A permeate pump or a tankless unit solves it, but only if somebody measured the pressure first. We serve every neighbourhood in Union Township and we check static pressure and cabinet clearance before quoting, rather than discovering the problem on install day.
Why Top Filtration
Plenty of companies will happily sell a homeowner a whole-house reverse osmosis system. We will not, because it is the wrong tool: RO produces water slowly, sends a meaningful share down the drain, and strips the minerals out of water you are only using to flush toilets and run laundry. The right answer is almost always RO at the kitchen tap plus carbon or a softener on the main line. Where main-line work is part of the plan, it falls under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code (N.J.A.C. 5:23) and Union Township requires a licensed plumber and a permit, so we bring a licensed plumber in and handle the permit and inspection ourselves. Drain connections on RO units also need a proper air gap, which is the detail inspectors by Union Township's building department catch most often.
Pricing, explained
RO pricing turns on three things: whether the system is tank-based or tankless, how many stages it runs, and what your cabinet and countertop actually allow. A countertop unit needs no installation at all. A standard four-stage under-sink system with a dedicated faucet is a few hundred dollars installed, and rises if we have to drill a granite countertop or add a permeate pump for low pressure. Tankless units cost more and need an outlet under the sink. We scope it on site and quote in writing — call (973) 380-3906.
We answer 24 hours a day and can usually be out the same day across Union. If you would rather start with photos, send them and we will give you a range before we visit.
